Meet me in St Louis, Dumbarton Road, Glasgow…

St Louis Cafe Bar can be found at 734 Dumbarton Road, by the Thornwood roundabout and is a great neighbourhood bar. My friend Emma and I strolled in here one Sunday afternoon looking for a quick bar snack and were immediately impressed by the warm atmosphere.

More upmarket than a pub but less formal than a restaurant St Louis strikes a perfect balance, especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

So how did it score….

Service 4/5: There is table service and I noticed a few people sitting up at the bar just for drinks too, so nice to have a combination of both. The two waitresses who served us were super friendly, jovial and very patient (as my friend and I were being super indecisive).

Food 3/5: They have a good sized menu, which ranges from wee bites such as bruschetta with goats cheese chutney to burgers, soup and homemade fishcakes. They also have an all day breakfast served until 5pm-a weekend must!

We had nachos to share for starter which were yummy with plenty of topping. I hate it if you have dry tortilla chips left at the bottom of a nacho bowl-but no fear of that in St Louis.

For my main I was having the Sunday muchies so opted for the Daily Special Burger, which was a steak burger with bacon and mozzarella served with skinny fries, coleslaw and salad. The burger bun was quite dry and the steak burger a bit tough but the fries were yummy and the salad fresh. It did the trick and overall I enjoyed it. It was washed down with a large glass of delicious Nosotros Sauvignon Blanc.

I think if I came back I would try one of the home made dishes such as St Louis Gumbo.

Atmosphere 5/5: The atmosphere was great. We were in around 4.30pm, just as it was getting dark. Candles were put out on the table giving a warm cosy feel and live music gave the place a great vibe.

Price ££: I would say St Louis is middle of the range pricing for a bar cafe. For nachos, a special burger and a large wine the total cost was£21.50.

Overall 12/15: Will definitely come back here, especially for the atmosphere. Was such a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon eating, drinking and listening to live music in a candlelit bar.
