It feels like Spring has sprung this week doesn’t it? The sun is out, ice-creams are in hand and the maxi-dresses are flowing on Byres road. So I thought I would share the perfect spring afternoon I had recently in the Hidden Lane Tearoom for my friend Fiona’s hen party. Who incidentally gets married this weekend- congratulations Fiona and Ben!!!!
So sorry Westenddazies that I have been behind with my blog posts recently. Life has been a bit hectic.
We have been sticking to our clean eating (semi-)religiously and are feeling great for it. However, every so often we feel the need for a little treat. Dinner at the Butchershop Bar and Grill one rainy Tuesday filled this need and more, whilst not totally ruining the diet, which is a big plus. Situated across from Kelvingrove Museum the Butchershop Bar and Grill matches this prime position with great food, service and atmosphere.
Colin and I are doing a clean eating challenge for the first 3 months of 2016, which is great by the way (but I will maybe share more of that later). After 3 weeks of not eating out we were hankering for a wee restaurant bite to eat. It may seem odd to you that we decided to go to Catch, a fish and chip shop and restaurant, in Giffnock. However, after reading a Daily Record article from January which named Catch in its top 10 healthy eating restaurants for 2016, due to its grilled fish options we were willing to give it a try.
So how did Catch live up to the reputation awarded it by the Daily Record. Continue reading
You may have passed the black box of the Dakota at Eurocentral on the M8 many times but have you ever thought of going for dinner or even better to stay over for the night? A number of our friends kept telling us about amazing nights they had in this Edinburgh and Glasgow based hotel, where they drank great cocktails, ate good food and slept in trendy rooms. So this Hogmanay, Colin and I decided to be a little bit anti-social and treat ourselves to a night in this mysterious black box of a hotel. From the moment we pushed aside the velvet curtains in the entrance way we were relaxed.
I drive along Great Western Road every Monday night and watched with anticipation the creation of Chequers, a cocktail and grill bar as a new addition to the Westend. It opened not long before Christmas and I was pleased to get a sneaky wee table for some pre-birthday drinks and some food with friends….
Blythswood Square Hotel, Glasgow, is one of my favourite places to go for a sneaky cocktail, a thermal spa (aaaand relax….) or food. So I was super excited to go the Sunday before Christmas for my birthday with my lovely hubby and family and boy did we enjoy it. As my 3 year old niece said “Today is all about food because it’s a birthday day” (I think she is going to take after her Auntie)…..
My husband Colin has been counting the days for Roasters Deli in Partick to open. Situated at Partick tube station, this New York inspired deli, offering both sit-in and take-away has been creating a social media buzz about its opening since June. We spent 2 weeks in New York in January and loved the deli sandwiches, hence Colin’s mouth has been drooling every time he saw a tweet or facebook post about Roasters. So we rushed down on its 4th day of opening to sample some delights….
I love My Home Bakery on Hyndland Street, Glasgow. It is just round the corner from my house which makes it an all too tempting option for a quick wee cake or delicious lamb and mango chutney sausage roll…yum!!!! Let’s face it…you know that anywhere that says ‘Diets end here’ on the door is going to be yummy.
This years Section 33 pop up restaurant is being held for 5 nights in the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall’s, Argyle Street, Glasgow. Launching last year with a pop up restaurant in Govanhill Baths, Section-33 is headed by Kyle Steel. Kyle not only has a wealth of experience in the restaurant business but also a heart of gold- with a proportion of the profits from these events going towards the restoration fund of the Panopticon and food banks. Last years event raised £2000 for the Govanhill Baths restoration appeal.
St Louis Cafe Bar can be found at 734 Dumbarton Road, by the Thornwood roundabout and is a great neighbourhood bar. My friend Emma and I strolled in here one Sunday afternoon looking for a quick bar snack and were immediately impressed by the warm atmosphere.
